Most Chevrolet models come with OnStar(2) standard for the first year
With the GM-exclusive Midgate, Avalanche is the most flexible vehicle out there.(1) It can change from a six-passenger SUV to a full-size pickup with seating for three and an eight-foot-long protected cargo box.(2)
Here´s how Avalanche can be transformed:
The 60/40 split-bench rear seat folds forward, allowing you to lower the Midgate and create an extended 8-ft. 2-in. x 4-ft. protected cargo box
For taller cargo, the removable rear window stores securely against the inside of the Midgate to increase storage space. Or remove the rear window to enjoy the thrill of open-air driving
You can transport large items such as a foosball table or an ATV with the tailgate closed
The rear window and cargo cover can also remain in place to help protect cargo like 8-ft. x 4-ft. sheets of plywood or sports gear, such as hunting and fishing equipment, from the elements
The Midgate is comprised of a strong, lightweight composite material that helps to reduce overall vehicle weight and resists scratches, dents and dings

With Active Fuel Management from GM, power is delivered when you need it, and you get the efficiency of four cylinders when you don´t.
The Vortec 5.3L and 6.0L V8 engines (available in 2LT (1) and LTZ models) transition seamlessly from eight cylinders to four cylinders and back again, making them both powerful and efficient. In addition, the Driver Information Center (DIC) displays a message, notifying the driver of this transition
In situations where extra power is not needed — such as cruising down the highway on level roads — Active Fuel Management deactivates four of the eight cylinders with seamless precision
When load demands increase — such as when the vehicle accelerates or travels uphill — valves are reactivated to provide eight-cylinder operation.
Active Fuel Management technology helps the 2009 Avalanche 2WD equipped with the Vortec 5.3L V8 engine offer an EPA estimated 20 MPG highway when running on gasoline
The bottom line: These Vortec V8 engines are more efficient in providing the energy to move the vehicle when only four of the eight cylinders are operating
1spacex1;spacex1;spacex1;2LT models require available Autoride suspension and locking rear differential; not available with Z71 Off-Road Package.
OnStar(1) with a one-year Safe & Sound Plan is standard when you purchase or lease an Avalanche LS, 1LT, 2LT and LTZ models come with a one-year Directions & Connections Plan. An OnStar Advisor is always ready to help in a variety of situations, whether you have locked your keys in the vehicle,(2) you have a flat tire or the air bags have deployed.(3)
In conjunction with Stolen Vehicle Assistance,(4) OnStar can also assist authorities by remotely slowing down a stolen vehicle. Once authorities have a clear line of sight to the vehicle and confirm that conditions are safe, they can request OnStar send a remote signal to gradually slow down the stolen vehicle. Stolen Vehicle Slowdown (SM) helps reduce the risk of injuries or fatalities resulting from high-speed pursuits.
